Motorcycle Accidents

As indicated in our Car Accidents page, in Florida you are not required to carry bodily injury liability insurance.  So, unfortunately, most of the time the person responsible for the accident has no liability coverage available.  Motorcycle accidents pose another interesting anamoly under Florida law as you are not required to have No-Fault benefits to own and operate a motorcycle.  This means if you are injured in an accident, getting medical attention can be that much more difficult, especially if you don't have group health insurance.  Chances are if you were on a motorcycle and were hit by a motor vehicle, the injuries sustained would likely be substantial and much greater than if you were in an auto accident.

You can elect to purchase Medical Payments coverage under most motorcycle policies here in Florida.  This coverage will pay 100% of all reasonably necessary and related charges up to your stated policy limits.  Again, if you do not have group health insurance, I would highly recommend the purchase of the same.  Additionally, I would also recommend the purchase of uninsured motorist coverage, due to the lack of bodily injury liability requirements here in Florida.
